Before Kinich turned seven years old, he lived with his family. His father was a gambling addict who spent his entire salary at the betting tables. When he won, he would bring gifts for his family but when he lost, would get drunk with borrowed money. Kinich's mother stayed conscious and would often fight with his father. Sometimes he admitted his guilt, but at other times a domestic war would erupt.

Most of the times, due to his father having greater physical strenght, he would win the fights. After a while, he would end up loosing their house in a bet, and they would have to move to the foot of the mountain, where they would have no neighbours to witness any violence that might occur. The injuries Kinich and his mother suffered depended solely on the degree of his father's drunkenness.

In a certain night, his mother ran away silentily, leaving her son behind., perhaps fearing of her husband would pursue her to the ends of the world. Kinich doesn't remember if she said goodbye but, even so, he skillfully took on the household chores, the farming, the hunting... and his father's violence.

However, as he grew, he began to find ways to escape. His athletic build proved exceptional, and with each passing day he became faster, fast enough that his father could no longer catch him. The day he completed seven years old, asked his father about his mother. No words were needed for the answer to present itself. His father started pursuing him, eyes bloodshot from a hangover, ready to teach him a lesson. But his body was no longer what it once had been. During the chase, as they passed a precipice, his father lost his balance through carelessness and plunged off the cliff.

By the time Kinich managed to react, it was already too late. The man with whom he had lived for so many years layed at the bottom of the ravine, motionless as a forest boar exhausted from struggling against a trap. He would never rise again. After recovering from the shock - and without knowing how much time had passed - he took his father's climbing hook and buried his own father's body.

After both his parents death, Kinich stayed living in the mountain. He would go to the tribal market to trade his produce for other necessities. Over time, he would leave a lasting impression on the adults of the tribe. Some were concerned he might face difficulties, but he never accepted anything for free - in his view, nothing in this world was free, and unsolicited, free help was far more suspicious than openly stated prices.

Whenever Kinich visited the tribe, he would only trade for what was essential before leaving, never lingering. Elder Leik, who was responsible for teaching the children, witnessed all of this. Having interacted with the child's parents in the past, he was one of the few people in the tribe who knew the boy's circumstances. So, he proposed a special arrangement to the boy when he visited the market. He wanted Kinich to attend the tribe's Learning Hut. As for the fee, he could perform tasks to cover the cost.

However, Kinich rejected the offer anyway, as he was too young to grasp the lessons and could hunt seven or even eight boars in the time it would take to complete the tasks. Even so, the Elder did not give up, spending the entire month explaining the Hut to the boy. Finally, they reached an agreement. Whenever Kinich went to the market, he would also attend school, in exchange for serving as the Elder's messenger when he was free. This arrangement proved satisfactory for both parties - hough neither of them expected the boy to graduate in just one day.

Kinich went to school, as agreed. When he entered the classroom, all eyes turned to him; because he was poorly dressed, the other children began to mock his appearance. That day, there was a lesson about the tribe's heroes, yet he could not understand how anyone would sacrifice themselves for the tribe without some goal like money or fame. To him, the wild boar was the noblest thing of all, for it filled his stomach. The next noblest thing was water, since without it, humans would die of thirst.

So Kinich said that if he were to become a hero, he would want money. The other children laughed at him, and a gang of boys shoved him out the door; even though Elder Leik tried to stop them, Kinich took the opportunity to leave anyway. He no longer felt the need to stay there. He had already realized that those noisy brats were just that - brats. Even so, the session hadn't been fruitless. Now he had some answers to his questions. He knew what to do with his future. Become a hero - for the money, of course.

Thus, despite some criticism from within the tribe, Kinich earned the respect of many of its members and was recognized as a hero with the help of Elder Leik.
